Postdoc and PhD positions in theoretical physics:
Machine Learning for Quantum Technologies

Application deadline:

Wednesday, December 1, 2021

The ‘Theory of Superconducting Quantum Circuits’ research group led by Alexandre Blais specializes in quantum computing and quantum optics in circuit QED, a leading quantum computer architecture. The group is looking for highly motivated candidates at all levels (graduate students, postdocs and research scientists) with expertise in the theory of superconducting quantum circuits, circuit QED, quantum error correction, microwave quantum optics, variational quantum algorithms, or machine learning.

Examples of possible projects include:

Talented PhD Students are sought to join the group of A/Prof Alexei Gilchrist at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, to work on projects within theoretical quantum information, and in particular on the characterisation of resourcefulness of quantum measurements and in quantum causal discovery with noisy quantum measurements.

Application deadline:

Friday, October 15, 2021

Making progress on practical applications of quantum computing will require close cooperation of talent from Quantum Information Theory, Computer Science, Theoretical Physics, Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence.

Do you have an excellent background in any one of these fields?

Are you interested in learning even more about the others, while working on interdisciplinary projects?

Are you motivated by working closely and interactively with colleagues and senior experts from different areas?

Application deadline:

We are seeking highly motivated PhD students to join our research group in Theoretical Quantum Physics. Candidates are expected to have either excellent analytical skills, ideally with a background in fermionic quantum systems and reduced density matrices, or a strong expertise in numerical methods used in quantum chemistry. Mathematical Physicists are encouraged to apply as well. Our projects are concerned with the interface of Quantum Information Theory and Quantum Many-Body Physics.

Application deadline:

Thursday, October 21, 2021

Competitive applications through the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme are invited. Research areas of interest are quantum walks and quantum games. To discuss further prior to applying, email michael.mcgettrick@nuigalway.ie

Application deadline:

Sunday, September 12, 2021

Successful candidates will work in a team of theorists and experimentalists on fundamental properties of quantum systems, such as quantum coherence and entanglement, and their applications in quantum technologies, such as quantum metrology, sensing, communication, and computation.

Application deadline:
