POSITION DESCRIPTION
The project includes the design, fabrication and experimental characterisation of solid-state single-photon emitters integrated with photonic circuits to create a scalable high-performance platform for quantum optical signal processing.
Join one of the most vibrant places for quantum science in Europe!
The Vienna Doctoral Program on Complex Quantum Systems (CoQuS) has been a training center for more than a hundred students the past 10 years. Our 15 different research groups are working on the forefront of the developments in modern quantum science and technology at six different locations in and around Vienna. The research disciplines are spread widely from pure fundamental to applied quantum science.

The theory groups at the Institute for Quantum Information of the Jülich-Aachen Research Alliance (JARA) are looking for a highly motivated candidate to fill a PhD position over the next few months. The doctoral project will focus on theoretical studies of physical implementations of quantum information processing, such as superconducting qubits, and enabling quantum technologies. The projects will be supervised by Dr. M.H. Ansari and may involve collaborations with leading experimental groups.

The Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA) is a consortium funded by the Quantum Flagship Programme. The consortium consists of twelve universities from eight European countries, in close cooperation with over twenty companies and institutes. The aim of QIA is to the develop a blueprint for a future quantum internet.

Quantum state tomography and quantum process tomography provide a mathematical groundwork to deduce quantum states and characterize quantum processes from measured data. However, quantum state and process tomography require an exponential number of measurements to reconstruct density or process matrix of a 2^n -dimensional system of n qubits. In this research program, we plan to investigate different approaches to develop scalable quantum tomography techniques.

Photons are excellent candidates to encode and transfer quantum information, however, lack of interaction between photons makes entangling operations and therefore nontrivial quantum states difficult to achieve. Mapping photons onto stationary atomic or solid-state systems can be used to mediate interaction between photons. In this research program we plan to use features of Rydberg physics such as the Rydberg blockade effect to induce non-linearity between photons.

Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) is a unique English-speaking international graduate only research university, located just outside of Moscow. Established in collaboration with M.I.T., Skoltech hosts internationally leading research activities on quantum science and technology, in particular the theory of quantum computers, condensed matter and quantum enhanced algorithms.
A fully funded PhD position for EU citizens is offered for a project on “SpeedDemon: Quantum speed limits in thermodynamic processes and coherent control” in the School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin. The work will be supervised by Dr. Steve Campbell (quantumwizard.weebly.com) through a Starting Investigator Research Grant from Science Foundation Ireland. The project aim to design practical schemes to achieve the ultimate control of complex quantum systems.
