A fully funded PhD position is available to work in the Thermodynamics and energetics of quantum systems group (QuSys) in the School of Physics at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland lead by Prof. John Goold. The group is a dynamic, International and gender-balanced bunch working on the cutting edge of the field. The research interests of the group are available on the group website: http://www.tcd.ie/Physics/research/groups/qusys/
The position is funded as part of the Provost’s PhD Project Awards run by the Dean of Graduate Studies:
https://www.tcd.ie/graduatestudies/phdawards/
The successful candidate must hold a degree in physics, theoretical physics or applied mathematics. The project will focus on engineering the transport properties of non equilibrium steady states of complex many-body quantum systems with a view to applications in autonomous thermal machines. The ideal candidate will have an interest in quantum many-body physics, thermodynamics and/or quantum information and an interest in numerical simulation. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative student who enjoys challenges and new endeavours.
The position is fully funded for a period of 4 years (stipend + fees) and is available also to non-EU students. Ideally the position will start in September 2020. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Please send a CV and cover letter with the names of two potential References (letters not required at this point) and informal enquiries regarding the project or the stipend can be directed to gooldj@tcd.ie
