Secure quantum communication over long distances may be enabled by the development of satellite platforms for the distribution of quantum states and entanglement from space. The Chinese satellite Micius has demonstrated the technical feasibility of satellite quantum communication and there are many international efforts to achieve similar capability. Quantum Key Distribution is the prime application but such space systems may be able to support new and novel protocols even more challenging to perform with terrestrial fibre networks.

Quantum Communications for ALL (QCALL) is a European Innovative Training Network that endeavours to take the next necessary steps to bring the developing quantum technologies closer to the doorsteps of end users. QCALL will empower a nucleus of 15 doctoral researchers in this area to provide secure communications in the European continent and, in the long run, to its connections worldwide.

Application deadline:

Sunday, April 30, 2017

A PhD position is available on the enabling technologies for long-distance trust-free QKD networks. This is one of the 15 positions available at the innovative training network QCALL (Quantum Communications for ALL), funded by the EU Marie-Sklodowska Curie Programme. These are very well-funded doctoral positions with annual salaries plus allowance roughly ranging from €52,000-€58,000 in Leeds. You will be employed by the University of Leeds for three years. Your PhD tuition fees will also be waived by the University.
