This post is funded by the ‘Integrating quantum sensors with bespoke
quantum error correction’ project supported by the Engineering and
Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The task of Ouyang’s group
at the University of Sheffield considers the integration of quantum
error correction (QEC) with quantum metrology, in particular, the
channel estimation problem. This project will study specialized quantum
error correction codes that maximise the quantum advantage attainable in
the quantum estimation of classical fields, while also considering
reasonable physical constraints that are imposed by the physical
system.
Here, at the University of Sheffield, we are a theory group focussing
on Quantum Error Correction (QEC) and its applications, for example in
Quantum Metrology. We are also interested in fundamental problems in
quantum metrology, such as in multiparameter state estimation (and
applications).
We are located in the lovely city of Sheffield, in the United
Kingdom.
The position is supported by the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum
Technology (WACQT), a 12-year initiative aimed to bring Swedish academia
and industry to the forefront of quantum technology. The centre is
funded mainly by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation with
additional contributions from the participating universities and
industry.
We are hiring an experimental research assistant within the Quantum
Light and Matter group at Durham, working on quantum sensing with
ultracold molecules in optical tweezer arrays. This position is funded
by the “UK-Canada quantum for science research collaborations” scheme
and there will be opportunities to travel to Canada as part of a
researcher exchange program with the University of Waterloo.
International applicants are encouraged to apply and will be eligible
for the Durham University Visa Reimbursement Scheme.
We are actively seeking an exceptional applicant (Australian
domestic applicants only) for a PhD scholarship at Macquarie
University, in the group of Professor Gavin Brennen at the Macquarie
Centre for Quantum Engineering. Participate in an industry-engaged
research project and undertake a six-month industry placement at BTQ
Technologies.

The MIRQ - International School on Mid-Infrared Technologies for
Quantum Sensing, will take place from July 28 to August 1, 2025, in
Como, Italy, as part of the Lake Como School for Advanced Studies
(LCSAS).
The school provides a unique opportunity to explore the latest
developments in mid-infrared quantum sensing. Participants will engage
in lectures and discussions led by leading experts in the field. The
program is designed for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers
working in quantum optics, photonics, and related disciplines.
Qove Laboratory has an opening for a post-doctoral research fellow
specialising in the design and fabrication of superconducting devices
for the detection of levitating superconducting sensors. The applicant
will lead the development of new superconducting devices and of its
application to quantum measurements.

We offer a 2-years PhD position (with possible extension) for a motivated researcher to join our work on adaptive quantum sensing. Our goal is to develop an automatic quantum sensor, based on a single spin in diamond, enhanced by machine learning algorithms. The sensor will automatically optimize its settings to operate in conditions of maximum sensitivity, minimizing the estimation times.
