Abstract:
Surface codes are quantum error-correcting codes normally defined on 2D arrays of qubits. During the lecture, a new surface code design will be introduced, based on the fact that the severity of bit-flip and phase flip errors in the physical quantum systems is asymmetric. For the proposed surface code design for asymmetric error channels, results of several experiments will be presented, utilizing the presence of various degrees of asymmetry of Pauli X, Y , and Z errors in a depolarisation channel.

The MWI solves the measurement problem, avoids action at a distance and indeterminism and does not contradict empirical evidence. Why, then, it is not in the consensus? The workshop will aim to promote the ongoing debate on the foundations of quantum mechanics by dealing with the major open questions regarding the MWI, together with objections and alternatives.
